Expert Hip Care to Help You Walk Comfortably Again

Hip replacement replaces a worn or damaged hip joint with an artificial implant. When the hip hurts, even getting out of bed or climbing stairs becomes hard. At Kathir Hospital, an orthopaedic specialist examines you and reviews your scans.examines you and reviews your scans.

Many hip problems improve with medicines, physiotherapy and weight management, so surgery is advised only when needed. We explain your options and recovery before you decide.

Questions patients may ask

Clear answers to common questions about hip pain, hip replacement surgery and recovery.

When should I consider hip replacement surgery?

It is usually considered when hip pain and stiffness affect your walking, sleep or daily activities, and medicines, walking aids and physiotherapy no longer help. It may also be advised after certain hip fractures. The surgeon decides after examining you and reviewing your X-rays, so a consultation is the best way to know if surgery is right for you.
Most patients start standing and walking with support within a day or two after surgery and go home within a few days. Daily activities usually improve over the first few weeks, while full strength and confidence can take a few months. Regular physiotherapy and following your surgeon’s movement precautions help you recover safely.
Modern hip implants often last many years, depending on your age, weight, activity level and how well the hip is cared for. Every surgery carries some risk, such as infection, bleeding, blood clots or a difference in leg length, and the team will explain these to you and how they are prevented before you consent.
