Overview

What patients should know about Obstetric care.

Obstetrics is the care of women during pregnancy, childbirth and the period after delivery. Good care begins early, ideally before conception, and continues through regular check-ups, scans and tests that help the doctor spot any concern in time.

Questions patients may ask

Clear answers to common questions about pregnancy, delivery and care for mothers and babies.

When should I see a doctor after I find out I am pregnant?

It is best to book your first antenatal visit as early as possible, ideally in the first few weeks. Early care helps confirm the pregnancy, check your health and start the right supplements.
This depends on your health and how the pregnancy is going. Most women visit once a month in the early months, more often as the due date comes closer. Your doctor will set the schedule for you.
Your doctor will decide with you based on your health, your baby’s position and growth, and any risks to either of you. The goal is always the safest birth for mother and baby.
