Expert Care to Heal Faster and Return Stronger

Sports injuries can happen to anyone who stays active, whether you play professionally, run, lift weights or play cricket on weekends. A twist, fall or repeated strain can leave you with pain, swelling or a joint that feels unstable.

At Kathir Hospital, an orthopaedic specialist examines you and reviews your scans. Most injuries heal with rest, bracing and physiotherapy, so surgery is advised only when needed. We explain every step clearly.

Before your visit

Prepare for the next step.

Bring previous reports, imaging results and current medicines for your consultation.

01
Share your main concern

Tell us how the injury happened, which sport or activity you were doing, where it hurts and how long ago it occurred. Also mention any swelling, locking, a feeling of the joint giving way or difficulty putting weight on the limb.

02
Bring relevant records

Carry X-ray or MRI films and reports, notes on earlier treatment such as bandaging, injections or physiotherapy, any braces or supports you use, and a list of your medicines, especially blood thinners.

03
Confirm timing and preparation

Follow the hospital’s instructions on fasting, medicines to continue or stop, and the investigations needed before any procedure. Until you are reviewed, rest the injured area and avoid activities that increase the pain.

Clear answers to common questions about sports injuries, treatment options and returning to play safely.

Do all sports injuries need surgery?

No. Most sprains, strains and minor ligament or muscle injuries heal with rest, medicines, bracing and physiotherapy. Surgery is considered for severe injuries such as complete ligament tears, certain meniscus tears or repeated joint instability, and the surgeon decides after examining you and reviewing your scans.
It depends on the type and severity of the injury, the treatment you receive and how well you follow your rehabilitation plan. Returning too early can cause re-injury, so your doctor and physiotherapist will guide you on when it is safe to restart training and play.
See a doctor if you have severe pain, visible swelling or deformity, difficulty bearing weight, a joint that locks or gives way, or pain that does not settle after a few days of rest. Early assessment often prevents a minor injury from becoming a long-term problem.
